Meningitis Warriors conequered the 26 miles

20th April 2015
We all met at 8am, the rain was pouring from the heavens and we prayed for drier weather later that day! Me, Adrian, Alan, Barbara, Eilidh, Jackie, Meghan, Rhea, Sharon & Stephanie donned our finest tartan and walking gear to get us from Hampden to Loch Lomond. Not everyone knew each other, that did't stop us having the best laugh ever. There were also tears, blisters, pain and some moments of delirium, where you had no control of your speech or thought processes (this is normal for some of us). We all supported each other from start to finish, we broke in to groups, solo and sometimes even latched on to other folk, deliberately and sometimes not deliberate (what was that smell?). We all committed at the beginning that we would start together and we would finished together. That is exactly what we done at about 6:23pm, just over 9 hours from when we set off! Here are some of the highlights from the day: - The sun came out about 11am and stayed with us for most of the day... - Jelly Beans - they give you that extra oomph - I smell s***e - that poor lady - Look its cupcake - where, what, how..... - A seagull has a unique signal for calling his mate - what does it sound like? - Its just one more corner... However, most of all I would personally like to thank everyone, who took part with me. This is an extremely difficult challenge and everyone of you took it on and done it whilst raising money for Kiltwalk and Meningitis Now.

The Kiltwalk - 3 sleeps

9th April 2015
It won't be long until me and 9 other Meningitis Warriors, take to pounding the streets of Glasgow all the way to Loch Lomond. This is another in a long list of events that I am taking part in to raise vital funds to support Meningitis Now. So what does it involve? Well we all don our Kilts, or a bit of tartan and our comfiest walking shows, hope that the weather stays on our side and walk the 26 miles from Hampden to Loch Lomond. Having done this event the last two years, one in Edinburgh and also here in Glasgow, I am really looking forward to this one and meeting up with loads of folk, making new friends, strengthening already magical friendships and having a right good laugh! The thing I am looking forward to the most? Caramel Wafers.....

Barcelona Marathon - done it!

18th March 2015
So Sunday 15th March 2015, the day came and the day went, as did much of my bodies physical capability! Then you remember why you are running 26.2 miles, because so many people are supporting you at home. There are thousands of people lining the streets in a city you don't even live in and they are cheering you on! Then the part that often took me to the brink of tears, was remember I am doing it for my family and raising vital funds and raising awareness to Meningitis, a virus that had a devastating impact on my family 18 years ago! My amazing friends and family helped me, Adrian and Del raise £700+ towards my target of £500, this is what made it all worth while! So happy it is done and ready to take on the next challenge of the Kiltwalk!

Progress report

19th February 2015
So Sunday saw me run 25.11km, this is 15.5 miles and the furthest I've run, ever! I felt great during this training session, the times it has been a little tough, I remind myself of the reason why I am doing it, to raise vital funds for Meningitis Now. Thinking about my sister asking me to help her raise money has been a great motivator for me and I am certain between us, it will be a great legacy for my nephew Kristopher. I am aiming for 18 miles this Sunday and will update you all on the progress soon.

I am a Glasgow Front Runner...

9th February 2015
Sunday 8th February.... I was a bit apprehensive about this run, meeting new people, running for a distance I've never done before, so lot's of nerves were going on. I don't know why, the group were great, I was with 2 great friends Del & Adrian and I know I had the support of other friends who were not with us. The weather was also on our side, it was cold, the sun was shining and it stayed dry all the way round. Managed 15 miles with no problems, now looking forward to building up to the next long run! I hear it is 30KM mich is about 19 miles....

Training started

9th February 2015
Monday 2nd February, just under 6 weeks to go to the big event. Went for my first long run today, 9 miles in the bag, ran with Adrian and this really helped me to focus on my pace. Felt really good, it was a great route, weather was great, beautiful skies on the way round and good company. Looking forward to next long run on Sunday 8th February, 15 miles, furthest I have ever ran....
